The RISE Startup Series offers weekly tips for startups. You’ve been checking back each week for a fresh instalment. Last week you learned how to hack the media. In this final edition, we’re letting you in on the secret to rocking the exhibition floor as a RISE startup…
RISE is only a week away. At this stage you know your stand number and you know who you’re bringing along. Your pitch is word perfect and you’ve got a strategy in place. You’re all set to go. Almost.
We’ve compiled three last-minute exhibiting tips so you don’t just exhibit – you rock the floor.
1. Download the app
Networking is paramount at an event like RISE, especially if you’re exhibiting. You can judge your success at RISE by the number of valuable connections you make, so start making them early. Reach out to interesting people before the event with the app: your key to a network of thousands of attendees, including investors, speakers and media.
Use the search function to find relevant people and favourite their profile in the app. When you get a chance, send a message and introduce yourself. If the conversation goes well you can always invite them to your stand to continue the conversation offline. That’s one surefire way of getting relevant attendees to your stand, making connections that could pay up big later.
2. Get sharing on social
Social media is a great way to get your stand buzzing at RISE. There’s no need to wait until your exhibition day. In fact, now, in the lead-up to the event, is the best time to get social. The conversation is happening already, so use #RISEConf to join in.
Use the hashtag to let everyone know you’ll be there. Share your stand number so they know exactly where to find you. Add photos and graphics to make it more eye-catching and just get sharing!
3. Get to know the venue
Take a look at the venue map. Where are you exhibiting? Where is that in relation to your must-see stages?
Make sure to note the location of the Startup Helpdesk, Roundtables, Mentor Hours area, Office Hours area, the PITCH and BREAKTHROUGH Stage and the Startup University Stage.

Take note of your stand number – you will have been sent your stand number by your Startup Mentor. You’ll be in one of seven startup areas: RISE ALPHA; Machine; Enterprise & Fintech; eCommerce & Marketing; Builders; BETA; or START. The area you exhibit in is determined by the industry you chose on your startup profile and each exhibition area features startups from similar industries.
That brings us to the end of the Startup Series for this year. Catch up with all editions of the RISE Startup Series before the event.
