In Numbers

RISE was our first tech event in Asia, and the reaction we received was like nothing we ever expected. The 5,438 attendees included 140 speakers, 300 investors, 225 media and 525 startups. Here’s a nice graphic of the 70+ countries represented in Hong Kong.

What they said

They said a lot of things, they being the 140 speakers that took to the stage at RISE. So much so that we couldn’t possibly include even a fraction of it here. Here’s just three of the many memorable quotes at RISE.

“Marketing is part of a product’s usability. Engineers need to learn psychology of customers” – Dave McClure, 500Startups

“Our company doesn’t want to be a terminator, every taxi driver has a family” – Jean Liu, Didi Kuaidi

“The Millennial seems to be allergic to Big Companies. They like something niche and edgy” – Ray Chan, 9GAG

Over the two days of RISE, 40 incredibly promising early stage startups pitched their idea as part of the PITCH competition. The preliminary round took place on Friday, with the best eight chosen to PITCH in the semi-finals on Saturday morning. From that we had our three PITCH finalists – Prenetics, Soundbrenner & Ambi Labs. After pitching their idea in front of the Centre Stage crowd, Ambi Labs were chosen as the winner, and the inaugural PITCH winners at RISE. Well done to all who competed.
